Talking Treatment

Not sure how many of you would have seen the Midlands Today programme on BBC1 (link below) regarding "Talking Treatment" basically saying that back pain is in the mind and that by talking we can alleviate it... This article starts at about 13.52 minutes into the news programme.

Thanks Mad I looked up this BBC story from your links, for what its worth, here's what I think!

All back pain is in the mind? My (pain ridden) arse it is!!

This 'phsycological rufuge rubbish' is wheeled out every couple of years and credance is given to it. Because our average NHS Spine Surgeon is so bad at accurately diagnosing complex and chronic back pain, they try to deflect reseach away from letting us 'poor saps' from finding out this very sad fact.

The bottom line is this;
Chronic back (spinal) pain, is usually caused by damage to, or impingement of, nerve strands, either upon nerve strands within the (thecal sac) spinal column or at the nerve roots as they exit the column.

A mechanical action, NOT phsycological rufuge!!

As the strands only have sensory receptors at the ends of the strands, for example feet, ankle, shins ect; when pain starts, in the lumber spine lets say, the brain can't work out where the pain is comming from.
It will then start fireing signals down the nerve strands to try and locate the true source of the pain, that's why we get pain in the bottocks, thigh, groins and so on, Yet when we rub these areas picked out by the brain as possible culprits, the pain goes away and we cannot feel anything wrong with that area.

Tranferred pains, NOT Phsycological Refuge!!

Of course the spinal pain signals are registered in the brain/mind! Thats the our body's central processing unit!!

But my mind did not create the 'mechanical friction' between my L 4/5 nerve root and my arthritic bone spurs, and it was not phsycological therapy that cured me, it was a bloke with an endoscope, a laser and a set of reamers in his hands, and no, I did not imagine him either!!

Dont listen to this rubbish!! do you research people!!
