Tantric massage

Hi all, I am trying to get as much information as possible on trantric massage. Can anyone tell me about their experiences of it. What are the main benefits and is a course of sessions advisable or is one ok? I have read alot about it but still not sure what it involves. Is there a conection between it and yoga?

You are being ripped off if you go for this!! There is no such thing. Tantra is a serious Easter practice and many "new Agers" have jumpted on the band waggon and are trying to exploit this.

thanks for that. the reason why I am interested in this particular one is that he his Eastern and spends much time in Shilanka. He is part of a charity organisation a]nd the fee goes towards orphans in Shirlanka. I just want to know about the massage itself and its benefits.

Given the amount of information available on Tantra generally, your question seems to be a little naïve, nevertheless, the way I see it - Tantra can be anything from healing meditation to ritual murder:

She did so but the nightmares continued and she began waking up screaming in the heat of the night and returned to the priest. 'For the sake of your family,' he told her, 'you must sacrifice another, a boy from your village.'
Ten days ago Sumitra and her two sons crept to their neighbour's home and abducted three-year-old Aakash Singh as he slept…. Police in Khurja say dozens of sacrifices have been made over the past six months. Last month, in a village near Barha, a woman hacked her neighbour's three-year-old to death after a tantrik promised unlimited riches. In another case, a couple desperate for a son had a six-year-old kidnapped and then, as the tantrik chanted mantras, mutilated the child.

The killings have focused attention on Tantrism, an amalgam of mystical practices that grew out of Hinduism. Tantrism also has adherents among Buddhists and Muslims and, increasingly, in the West, where it is associated with yoga or sexual techniques. It has millions of followers across India, where it originated between the fifth and ninth centuries. Tantrik priests are consulted on everything from marital to bowel problems. Tantric massages can also range from a genuine healing experience, to a sexual assault .

Andre7, thanks for your comments and while my question may seem somewhat naive, especially if you know the subject, I do feel it is important for me to become informed. From my understanding Trantric massage is abused and misused. This is an area I know very little about but would appreciate opinions and experiences so that I can understand more about it. While there is alot of information on the internet I am not sure how genuine most of it is.

There will be those who disagree, but genuine Tantric massage for women can be a truly profound healing, nurturing, sensual experience:

This is an honoring, loving full body massage, in which every part of the body is held, massaged, explored and healed. Ps.: I would have some reservations about some websites promoting tantric massage, with half-naked girls or athletic young guys giving or receiving massage, unless someone is just looking for an erotic/sexual experience, which is of course OK.

But tantra is for any age 18-108 and it can be a way of life. It is your birthright.

Congratulations Andre. One of the most concise explanations of tantric massage I have heard. One must also remember that there are various 'schools/branches' of tantra that all have there own rituals. For the true tantric it is a lifetimes study.

Andre, thank you so much for your very defined explanation. Now I am beginning to understand what it is all about. I do think I have discovered a genuine tantric therapist. I probably will not avail of his therapy myself but it is good to know one for recommendations. Like you say I have come across so many scantly clad 'ladies' advertising tantra massage. Just did not seem correct to me.

Andre's description of Tantric Massage for women is a really good one. Yoni massage encourages a woman to 'let go' both emotionally & physically and awaken to her true feminine self.

ok, another related question....

when I was discussing this with someone, they said that they could not see how tantric massage was not selling a sexual service, if sexual pleasure is gained by the client from the experience... I relayed some of the description Andre7 gave above to the experience and the healing nature of the therapy, but the person in disucssion still thinks that if you give a massage that involves the erogenous zones and leads to some form of sexual arousal or pleasure, then it equates to prostitution rather than massage therapy.

I don't necessarily agree with them but find the question quite puzzling, just wondered what other people's thought are? I know in theory people can become inadvertently sexually aroused by any kind of massage, no problem so long as they don't act inappropriately, but seeing as tantric massage generally involves a bit more erogenous-zone contact (as far as i can tell) I wondered what others thought about this?

Hi,

There are always a few, who will insist, that any form of massage or touch is sexual rather than a nurturing, healing or therapeutic experience. And if payment is received it is prostitution .


Tantric massage is basically the meeting of two people offering unconditional love to explore intimacy and trust, through touch, in the presence of the Divine. It also understood that sexuality and spirituality are inseparable.


To give two extreme examples from my experience:

1. For some, female circumcision of young girls is a spiritual, religious duty. For a tantric therapist to offer healing and be an empathic witness to the victim in adulthood, suffering for years the physical and psychological effects of such barbaric mutilation - would be a sacred privilege.

2. Following psychotherapy and counseling for a year, after a double mastectomy a woman came for treatment, when she was still unable to look at herself in the mirror or touch her own body when bathing. The sessions helped her to look at her body and a little later to start a new relationship. (and I could list other cases)


In my opinion the reason why Tantra survives today, despite the persecution of sexuality in various religions and civilizations, the reason it emerges spontaneously in different periods and places in history - is based on something indefinable that allows the participants to experience what seems to be for all intents and purposes - the presence of the God/Goddess in one’s partner.


For some, sexuality leads to sainthood; for others it is the road to hell... In my view sexuality is not a leisure or part-time activity. It is a way of being - integral part of human spirituality.


The story of Christianity's development has been painfully marked by a growing chasm, separating body from soul. This story is one of the most significant and fateful developments in the history of the West. A RADICAL renewal of the re-union between Sexuality and Spirituality is absolutely essential for our human health and psyche. This shift could help people to accept tantric massage as a therapy instead of seeing it as prostitution.


Among the monotheistic religions, patriarchal cultures of the ancient world, the Hebrew is unique in their positive valuation of sexuality, erotic love. Hebrew tradition, like tantra, has also consistently celebrated human sexual intimacy and its pleasures. In this tradition, sexual asceticism, celibacy has no religious value. Sexual intercourse in marriage is a religious duty and blessing, a meritorious act. The Talmud describes a debate over whether to include the Song of Songs in the Hebrew Bible. Rabbi Akiba declared it to be the holiest and most sacred part of Scriptures, despite an indication that the lovers are unmarried.
