About a month or so ago, I was talking with one of my teachers. She had asked me what I wanted to do with massage? I started to tell her the areas I wanted to work. She listened and then told me I'd be better off having a specialty and become known for that and do the other 'stuff' on the side. It kind of makes sense...be really good in one or two specific areas. 'Course, I'm still at a loss as to what it's going to be. :-/

A few months ago I saw one of my massage instructors and was talking to him about this and expressed that I wanted to become known as "THE" person to go to for a specific thing. He totally disagreed. Said that we are shortchanging ourselves to concentrate on one area. I don't think I agree with him. I think you stand out in the crowd if you are known as the specialist for something. I'm still trying to figure out the marketing thing. I don't want to do one thing exclusively, yet I do want to be well known for one thing. Trying to figure out how to not sound like that's ALL I do and ONLY that.

I think it is important to have a target market. My target market are clients that are willing to receive regular massage and make it a regular part of their lives.It is much more beneficial to them and easier for me and my hands. They learn to truly value massage for its many benefits.I market to them by offering incentives for them to come regularly and to do good work that gets results.I don't specialize in one specific area, I just try to do my best with each individual. Word of mouth is good for getting these types of clients also. Once one regular is happy they will talk to other potential clients and get them to understand the benefits of regular massage. You can turn anyone into a regular with the right work and by educating them on the benefits of receiving regular work.
