Tarsal Tunnel?

Hi...anybody heard of tarsal tunnel or treated a client for it?

An acquaintance has been diagnosed with tarsal tunnel and I'm wondering what kinds of things may help her...aside from the drug therapy route (steriods)? I've treated for carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet but never tarsal. I imagine the course of action would be similar (?).

I've suggested natural anti-inflammatory rubs (Arnica Montana & Sombra), as well as, orthotics and icing.

Yep, heard of and treated. Postural assessment is a must, starting with the pelvis. I also use some of the same techniques and home-remedies as with plantar fascitis such as rolling the sole of the foot on a frozen water bottle.

Working the tib anterior and the peroneus longus (and other peroneals) helps, as well as looking for trigger points along the edge of soleus. Then follow up with gentle myofascial spreading of the ankle retinaculum, and looking for adhesions in there.

Much like "carpal tunnel", the problem is often much farther up.

Abductor Hallucis / Tarsal Tunnel Relationship

The tarsal tunnel is analagous to the carpal tunnel. In the tarsal tunnel the tibial nerve passes under the sharp edge of the flexor retinaculum at the medial side of the ankle. It splits into the medial and lateral plantar nerves just underneath the next structure which is the abductor hallucis.
