Tax question

I rent a space at a fitness/tanning center, but formed my own business as an LLC. Since I have my own name, can I be expected to pay a town tax (not sales tax as I don't sell anything) or am I covered under the owner for any taxes due since I operate from his establishment? He recently had to pay a pretty large sum for some kind of tax on revenue, outside of his sales tax, so I'm a little concerned.

You could probably contact your city hall and talk with the tax clerk about your specific situation. I think every town might be different. The town I live in now just charges for a business license every year which covers the 'tax' I would pay if I were operating my business in another town which determines how much ones pays by how much revenue one generated.

I know I should, but I'm almost afraid to. We're tax poor already in Louisiana and I'm sure if they weren't charging before, it'd plant a seed in their minds to bring that up at the next town meeting. That's just my luck. lol

1) check with a local CPA, they can give you an answer without worrying about if they will begin to tax you.

2) change how you vote and kick those leeches out of office.

It does sound like you face a Business Operations tax, which affects ALL business. Your land lord pays based on the rents he collects, but all of his tenants have to pay as well since they operate business distinct from his.
