Teaching Class

I wanted to start teaching some classes but dont know how to go about it.  I have already writen the outline for a Meditation class but do I need to be certified to teach in Michigan?  I also wanted to teach a couples massage class I thought that might be fun to do or maybe a home spa class.  But agian I dont know if I have to be certified or not.  I was also looking for somewhere on the net that gives you pointers on how to do it but havn had any luck.....

Teaching Class

I checked with my massage therapy instructor/director at the school where I got my certification/license. He said it was legal to charge people to teach them how to provide massage to one another, as long as you indicate somewhere in your advertisement/brochure that this course does NOT certify those who sign up and complete the course. It is simply an eduational class for their own personal knowledge and does not count as a educational institution's standard class. This, however, is in the state of Texas so I'm not sure if another state would say this was legal or not.Be well,Jen

Thank you Jen and BJ.  Given that my state is not yet regulated. I am going to assume that as long as I put in a disclamor that it will be okay.

If you're going to be teaching a meditation class, I don't think there would be any issues. I think the only reason you would need certification is to teach in a public school or maybe an accredited post secondary school. Workshops taught on your own are not typically regulated by the government.--I'm just getting into teaching as well. The two schools I'm teaching at are massage schools and both have different requirements. One has no requirements and the other I need to take a 6 hour workshop on teacher training. If I want to get into teaching polarity, I need to go through polarity teacher training. So there's an example of a modality restriction. Yes, I could teach polarity but then none of my students would qualify for APP or RPP certification. I think Transcendental Meditation is trademarked so you wouldn't be able to use that unless you are a certified TM instructor. With all that said, I am also teaching workshops to the general public and don't need a darn thing for that.  Hope that helps.
