tens machine

hi I have been to the pain clinic and they have given me a tens machine to try to control the pain I have in my back. has anybody used one of these and what do you think of them. I did try one many years ago and did not think much of it. but now I am hoping that they are more advanced, plus there is so many days that I am in a lot of pain, I want to try to make it more managable. I take that many painkillers that if I can cut them down it will be great.
