Thai Dekompression?

Hello, hello again!
The weekly column at Sickman´s website reports a new thai trend and that seemingly is trashing Farangs i.e. giving them the boot in a less than nice way (mostly in but not limited to Bangkok).
What I read there was pretty disturbing indeed. It ranged from the average bar brawl to blokes getting the proverbial S**t kicked out of them for trifle reasons or no reasons at all (and it seems that the beating really just starts when the farang´s already lying on the ground) to guys outwright being killed or murdered. Now, can anyone of you mates confirm this?
Is this a 'sociological' reflex of the more radical sort by Thai males, tired and pissed of to the max of millions of fallangs traversing their land and ****ing their women? Or has Stickman simply lost it?
I have no clue as I´m 20.000 klicks away.....but maybe some of you, who are there at present, can give me an insight?

This sort of thing happens all over the world, it is only because it is a relatively rare occurance in Thailand that it is getting publicity. As I don't know the details of these incidents it is difficult to guess the reasons behind them. A lot of unprovoked attacks are due to drink/drugs, because these are attacks on tourists they hit the headlines, I wonder if Thai on Thai assaults are up.

As the Stickman article implies, these attacks are mainly in the early hours of the morning and not in the main tourist areas. I am (relatively) sure that if there is a problem and it affects the "tourism trade" , the Thai authorities will crack down on it.


P.S Don't mean to be nosey, Ampoliros, but having read about your predicament with your GF, I was wondering what the outcome was. Your previous posts certainly got a lot of differing opinions and veiws from BMs, and as you hadn't reached a decision at the time, I'm curious as to what happened next.

If this is true and becomes the trend of the future, then it will be the case of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, for LOS. One of the reasons that LOS is such a popular destination is that the Thais treat farangs so well and there are no hassles there!!

I think it is very likely that Bangkok is more violent than it was ten years ago, but that is true of everywhere I know of.

Statistically, Thailand is not in the top 40 countries in the world for violent crime. Bangkok is far safer than London, New York and just about every other major city on the planet.

I read this article with some interest, and some of the stories are alarming, but for me if you use a little bit of common sense you will be safe in Bangkok.
