I've just completed my 4th Thai massage seminar this year. This last one was an intense 10-day workshop with the most amazing instructor who actually taught at the school in Chang Mai for many years before moving to the states.

Anyone else here practice Thai massage?

What has been your experiences with it?

I'm finally planning a trip to visit Chiang Mai and study for two months this coming Spring. If anyone has been and studied there I'd love to hear about your experience. I've decided to spend the bulk of my time studying with Remco at Blue Garden.

I love Chiang Mai! I hope you will too! I studied four levels at ITM. If I go back, I will look at independent places to study based on their massages/touch. I also studied in Koh Chang one on one with a elderly massage therapist who had a lifetime of experience. She gave me the best thai massage and was very skilled with touch.

I'm thinking two months should be sufficient for me to get a taste of everything and do some touristy things as well.

Remco teaches some "flying stretches" that I'm really interested in trying out. But he does not teach Thai foot massage or herbal, which I also want to learn. From browsing the web it seems there are a LOT of schools in Chiang Mai in addition to what I've found online, so I figure I can just pop into one or ask for referrals once I get there and meet other students.

Very excited! It will also be my first time traveling outside of the US.

I've gone to Thailand several times. I stay anywhere from 3 to 7 weeks. I have family who live there, not in Chiang Mai. I visit them while I'm in the country. I can only tolerate two to three weeks of massage school at a time. I practice what I've learned between visits and build each time I go back.

How lucky for you! If I could afford the time to travel that often, I'd love to go back and study a few weeks at a time. Maybe in the future that will be something I can arrange to do.

Hi there,
I live in Europe, but studied in Chiang Mai in a few schools few times. What is name of the instructor you studied last workshop? In US I would recommend you to sign up for any course with my great friend Gabriel Azoulay, there is a lot of him on Youtube..
Also, another friend of mine - Chance Kanfush from NY.
They both are very experienced bodyworkers and great humans.
Have you been to Pichest Boonthomme in Chiang Mai? He is really master of the masters, it is best thing in life to meet him if you ever have a chance! But, its not a regular school, more temple like... he is a healer and he kind of see through your karma... one can learn a lot from him but it takes time and one learns to be really humble as he puts everyones ego down on earth... Extremely good technique, he teaches how to really connect to the client, how to feel" and work intuitively, so one doesnt run out of one energy, nor hurts himself when practicing Thai Massage, how to not transmit tension etc. that is important!

I have been a fan of thai massages for many years now that was what made me think of learning the art of thai massage myself since i know it is something that really interest me. I have been wanting to go to thailand to get myself a good workshop on this and im going this summer, I haven't decided yet which workshop i will go into but then i am doing some of my researches already, I do hope that i can get the authentic practitioners to teach me. I quite afraid though that there might be some language barriers so i guess i have to work on that as well. I'm looking for any suggestions, tips and advises from those who had workshops as well. I have two levels of Thai completed, and looking forward to earning my next level in Thailand.

I mix Thai and Shiatsu, and my overall approach is informed by Watsu/Tantsu work as well.

Client wise, I'd say Thai has a newness that keeps them intrigued, and for my original clients, all vets of the many palours in Chiang Mai, I fit the bill until they can go back.

As a body worker, Thai is my favorite land methodology.

I find that I getting many of the same benefits my clients do. I'm often energized at the end of the day, or have that good worked feeling.

It is happy work.

I cannot say enough great things about this company. Margie is an excellent instructor (she teaches both table thai and swedethai) and if you want to take traditional Thai she has an instructor from Thailand (Jongrak.)

She teaches primarily in Florida and the Southeast.
