I'm a new LMT, licensed since august. And i currently just give my clients a bottle of water with my name and info on it as a thank you after the massage. I'm wanting to do more, but not spend a ton of money, and something that they will keep longer than 30 minutes. What do you all give as a thank you gift? Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks a bunch

I don't know that I'd think of a bottle of water as a "thank-you" gift... but, that is just a terminology thing.

I get what you're looking for. Feel good items for the client that make their experience just "better" than coming - getting massage - paying - leaving.

I like the idea of placing an Andes Mint on the table, but never have, because I'd have to make sure and tell everyone it's there or they may lie on it, or knock it off the table (which then would be easy to mash into the carpet by accident), .... you get the idea.

But, how about a treat like that when they leave. It wouldn't cost much and yet it would be a warm fuzzy.

Just a thought.

Now that put it that way, i guess it isn't really a thank you gift, but yeah something nice.

I can totally understand about the andes mint thing, i think most of my clients would just move it and not get it. I thought about a nice candle with my business name on it. But that can get pricey. I thought about maybe a nice small bag of lavendar from the local lavendar farm. But i don't know if guys would like that. I'm stumped. Candy will be gone in a few minutes, water just doesn't seem super thoughtful.

A small bag of bath salts with your name/info printed on the bag (I use the clear labels) makes a nice, inexpensive gift. Yes, they use it up - but not quite so quickly!!

Bath salts, i like that idea. I'm thinking of adding salt scrub and sugar scrubs to my practice so that would be a good idea. Thanks i like that!! Keep them coming.

I'm not a big fan of additional gifts for clients.
The best gift that you can give them is your full attention.

I think that giving them a drink of water is nice - although it's almost expected.

I will sometimes leave things on the counter by or in the jewelry dish or by their water ...but it's usually something like an individually wrapped piece of dove chocolate or a peppermint lifesaver (both relatively inexpensive by the bag).

Very few people use the bath salts so it would be better to leave a few in a basket with a little sign saying "feel free to take one".

I like to "spoil" my clients with a bottle of water with 2 pieces of Dove Chocolate on the shelf. I also leave a hot towel out to wipe off oil. During the massage I offer a hot towel on the face just because it feels good. After the first massage they receive a handwritten thank you note in the mail. I make a point to write my clients 2 handwritten notes each year. I don't consider any of these gifts, though.

As far as "gifts" go I send out a welcome package with a nice pen that bears my company name, logo and phone number. I send out Thanksgiving cards (gratitude is big with me) and everyone receives a calendar magnet for the next year. The week around certain holidays I may pick up little giveaways. They're often silly fun things - as I personally place a big emphasis on fun and joy. For example I got 1" buttons with "I I always encourage people to find things that reflect them. Be authentic and you can't go wrong! If pampering is big to you, taking care of self - bath salts may be the perfect thing! But remember that everything cuts into your bottom line & while it's nice to be nice to clients our biggest gift is being present when they are there, focused on them, encouraging them - and it doesn't cost a thing!

I'll go off on a mini tangent I have been considering for a while.. why not set up a website (or you can use youtube, or facebook) where clients can learn about you and your practice? You could add things about stretching and self care, how to make scrubs/why to get them/demo,etc, and massage demos? Then you can send them off from a massage with a bottle of water with a little eforum.xxx saying they can learn more at your website? Just a thought I guess, and it doesn't cost anything but time. =)

I always have lifesaver mints individually wrapped in a glass bowl by the jewelry container. At Christmas, I add Christmas candy. Right now for Valentine's, I have chocolate kisses. I try to keep sugarfree candy in a side dish for those who prefer it. The sugarfree bowl is hard to keep full as most of my clients grab those first.

For January, I picked up several after Christmas gift basket bath sets from Walmart for $3.50. I put everyone who had an appt in that month in a drawing for a bath set. That went over well.

I picked up a few of the foot roller massage thingy's and gave that to a couple of people who need/like foot massage. I also got some hand shaped cookie cutters - thought I would make home made cookies or I may use them to make soaps with or something. I know someone who had some nice bookmarks with their info on it that people could take.

Thank you everyone. You have given me some great ideas. I currently do have a website and facebook page. And on the facebook page i try to do a daily massage fact. So bringing some attention to that would be super. Thank you all again. I have to figure out what works best for me and that may take a little while, being i've only been doing this since october. Before you give clients a gift, I think you should ask yourself what's its purpose. Massage therapists as a rule are incredibly generous already. I agree with Vita that sending thank-you notes or cards is a great idea. You could include something in the envelope specific to whatever they came in to have treated, for instance, a brochure or article. That extension of your concern may mean more to that person than a bottle of water and maybe even more than chocolate.
