The liver and circulation

Does anyone have a brief explanation of how the LIVER is connected to the circulatory system,I know it is involved in the clotting factor and cholesterol levels,but what else?,as an assisted area it is recommended to work the liver for heart conditions,any advice please.

There is a hepatic or portal circulation, which takes the blood from the intestines to the liver and then back again. (IIRC - it was last year when I did this!)

Well star99,
I asked my tutor tonight and she said the liver is a detoxifer so that's why it s included in the circulation regarding the heart and is listed in the itec book under the associated reflexes.(saw it there for varicose veins).
Hope this helps but if your anything like me and you need more info than that i think the internet is the way to go!

Off the top of my head without further research - liver reflex is worked for varicose veins due to hepatic/portal circulation as Chris mentions.

Hi starr 99,

Practical went fine.It was a bit late starting due to confusion on start time with some of the class.But sure once we got going it went well.But God i was nervous when it came to the tutor asking us questions! And it took me ages to write up the case study afterwards, every one else had gone Hope it'll all go well on the 22nd for the real itec practical, but first i ll have to get thru' the theory on the 14th! But i really love reflexology and i ve had great sucess with it with my little boy for chronic constipation so looking forward to using it with other people in the real world

We were'nt examined on hand reflexology by our tutor but i definitly included it in all my case studies uner the heading "self treatment".I 'm sure we could be asked on the day by the examiner about reflexes on the hand but sure she could ask me anything on the day, from muscles to bones, god knows i should sign off now and get studying!

In response to the poster who said it took ages to write up her case studies can I recommend speech recognition on your laptop? I spent ages typing up my first two then someone suggested buying a mic and hey presto...done in half the time leaving me valuable time to study my A& P which is in two weeks time! I managed to reel off loads of stuff Id not jotted down properly on the consultation sheet. Wouldnt be without it now, but word of caution...dont leave it on if someone phones you otherwise you will find you have a page of gobbledegook!!

just to add its really easy to set up, just connect your mic up (maybe better with the headphones attached) then go to control panel, find speech recognition on bottom on menu and click to set up mic first then go through the tutorial, that way you figure out all the little bits and bobs.
