She sounds like a good classically trained mezzo that is taking a swing at pop music.

Reminds me of what Annie Lennox did decades ago. She was more of a contralto but was trained at the Royal Academy and found success in pop music, albeit with an edge.

Without a doubt she will make more money in pop then in opera.

But there are many sopranos currently singing (some with the COC) that sound just as impressive, but since they only sing for the stuffed shirt old foggies, the general public is not aware of the massive talent that is all around.

Its actually funny when I see a TV program that has "discovered" a new singer (for example Paul Potts). When you listen to them back to back to a back with a great operatic singer you can hear the difference. They are extremely good, but not quite as good as the greats. That's why he was selling cell phones and not given the role of Don Jose in Carmen.

Soprano refers pitch or an operatic variable, no one sings strictly soprano and nothing else (well not since the 17th century) everyone chords some sort of variation. I completely agree with your assessment though.

Sorry 7 years of classical training makes you a tad pedantic lol.
