* A hard drive was a long trip on the road
* A mouse pad was where a house lived
* And if you had a 3 1/2 inch floppy -

I can remember the time before computers as well, when you couldn't buy them off the shelves because they had to be custom-made - she says, sneakily trying to steer this thread back on-topic. One day, out of the blue my boss told me to order a computer when I hadn't the foggiest idea about them. It was rather like buying a car with no idea of how to drive it. And when this 'machine' turned up, my boss was too scared to touch it, in case she broke it. Now everyone seems to take computers for granted.

Apparently my spies tell me that 'hog' is a native of Hampshire Fleur. It probably goes back to the 'olden days', before computers. Lol.

I would like to think it dates back to Wessex where the symbol of the Pagan Anglosaxons is the bore. But I have no evidence to back me up.

The first recording of the term was in 1790 when Hampshire was famed for its bacon.
