I am new here, so excuse me if this is an old topic. I just wanted to say I recently purchased a Thera Cane (http://www.theracane.com) from a local massage shop, and I have been THRILLED with the effects.
Most primarily, it is effective with the suboccipitals and other base of neck trigger points. It is also good for hitting rhoboids, levator scapula, supraspinatus, pterogoids (TMJ). You can even use it for vertebral mobilization in tense sections of the cervical/thoracic/lumbar spine.
Great leverage. Allows tonnes of pressure with minimal effort or awkward reaching. The little booklet of positions it comes with is great as well.
It's no replacement for a skilled therapist, but if you don't have one on hand 24/7, it's a great substitute to hold you over in between.
