The Theragun Pro is the top-of-the-range massage gun from natural wellness company Therabody, but is it worth the hefty price tag?
The ‘percussive therapy massager’ is marketed as “the deep muscle treatment pros trust”.
Therabody says the device which is in “a league of its own… enhances muscle recovery, releases stress and tension, and soothes discomfort.”
We decided to put those claims to the test.
Theragun Pro: Availability and price
The Theragun Pro is available in stores around Australia including Harvey Norman and Bing Lee as well as online through the Therabody website for $899.
The massager is the top of the range, 4th generation device from Therabody, a company that was created in 2008 by chiropractor Dr. Jason Wersland after he suffered a life-altering injury.

Dr. Wersland invented the world’s first hand-held percussive massage therapy device, Theragun, as an alternative to surgery or pain medication to treat injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
The company’s popularity has soared in recent times. It was recently chosen as the ‘tech wellness partner’ of prestigious football club Real Madrid.
Therabody is also promoted online by Aussie sport stars including NRL great Cameron Smith and tennis star Alex de Minaur.
Theragun Pro: Design
The Theragun Pro is smartly designed to offer four unique arm positions, that enables ideal angles to reach any part of the body yourself.
The triangle ergonomic handle also allows you to hold the device in a range of different ways, which reduces strain on your arms and also gives the ability to apply pressure in hard to reach places such as your back.
The device also comes with six attachments which all offer a different level of impact on the body.
For example the Supersoft attachment unsurprisingly provides the least impact on the body, but allows for massaging of sensitive points.
On the other hand the cone impact focuses all the energy of the Theragun Pro onto one small point, giving a more intense and focused treatment.
All-in-all the design of the Theragun Pro is incredibly impressive, not only does it look good, it really provides so many options for treating sore or stiff areas anywhere on your body.

Theragun Pro: Battery life
The Theragun Pro comes with two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries as well as a charger, meaning you never need to get caught out without your massage device while the battery is charging.
Each battery gives about two weeks of use when you’re using the device regularly (at least once a day), meaning it’s fine to take away on a short holiday without needing to bring along a charger.
In fact the 4th generation Theragun Pro has twice the battery life of its previous 2019 version.
Therabody also sells a wireless charging stand for the device for an additional $129.
Theragun Pro: Usability
The device is super easy to use, you really don’t need to be an expert to reap the rewards of the Theragun Pro.
As long as you can identify where you feel sore or stiff, the Theragun Pro will be effective at making your body feel better. Just point and shoot.
However to get a better understanding of how to use the device, the Theragun Pro comes with Bluetooth connectivity as well as an associated app which you gives you more insight on ways it can be used.
The massage gun also comes with an OLED screen which shows you the speed of the percussion of the device.
Using up and down arrows on the device the user can easily adjust the percussion speed and therefore the intensity of the massage experience.

What’s to like?
At the press of a button the Theragun Pro can give you the feeling of a deep-tissue massage from the comfort of your own home.
Easy to use and extremely powerful, the device really does live up to it’s billing and it’s hefty price point.
After just a few days of using this device you can expect your muscles and joints to feel looser and more flexible than before.
This is especially valuable to active people as it allows you to fit more workouts into your schedule and avoid compulsory rest days due to muscle soreness.
Therabody’s QuietForce Technology also means the powerful motor in the device runs surprisingly quietly, making the experience even more relaxing.
What’s not to like?
The $899 price tag really is the only downside to this impressive device.
When it comes to the performance of the Theragun Pro and its ability to get your body feeling better, it really isn’t lacking in any area.

Final thoughts
Therabody’s 4th generation percussive massage device is an absolute game-changer.
It’s a device that can have a huge impact for many types of users from gym junkies looking to minimise tightness, to adults who just want to reduce aches and pains across their body.
While it’s a big investment financially, the benefits of the device certainly make it worth it in the long run.
Therabody provided this publisher with a loan device for testing purposes. This did not affect our views on the device, and our review remains independent of the manufacturer.
