Throbbing right foot

I'm taking an ITEC diploma in IHM and my third practice case had a throbbing right foot after the treatment was finished. She explained that even when she went to her hairdressers, and they carried out IHM which would be to a lesser degree than the treatment I did, she gets a throbbing feeling at the front of her foot immediately after the treatment. I called over my tutor and she was intrigued as she has never came across such a thing. Anyone got any ideas. I haven't decided yet whether I will use her for a case study or not.

Hi Tanwoman,
I'm a reflexologist. I think that you may have stimulated blood flow in your clients peripheral circulation- her extremeties (feet,hands)
Nerve pathways all over the body are interconnected. During Indian Head Massage, you are influencing circulation and stimulating blood flow. The carotid artery, (neck) is part of the aortic artery which carries oxygenated blood through-out the body to the feet. This can be felt (palpated) as a pulse on the top of the foot. If someone has poor circulation, the pulse cannot be felt very easily.
Likewise, the venous system ( interior jugular and suclavian vein in the neck) return blood from all over the body.
The body is fascinating, I often find that my client will experience sensations in different places as I am working on their feet. I wonde if your client has some pre-existing circulatory/ heart condition and you have stimulated circulation to that foot during massage?

It's Jenny again. Just to say, yes do use your client as a case study, as long as there are no contra-indications to treatment, as I am sure there are not as you've already treated.
These are clients that you will learn from and have more pointsof interest for your case study- even if some areas remain unanswered,

Hi Jenny,
Many thanks for getting back to me, you could be right that I should use her as a case study. I qualified last year as a reflexologist and it did make me think that perhaps I might have stimulated some zone while carrying out the IHM. As you say the body is a wonderful and fascinating place.
