That was the second riot of that week. I had seen a video on a guys cell phone from the inside and the inmates through an inmate that was a cop into the fire. He ran through it a few times, but finally he did not escape. It was hard to watch. I went down to the prison after the first one and visited with families of inmates and prayed.
A few days later several bodies were found in the Zona Norte (not anywhere close to the bars) and rumor has it that the police had piled up a bunch of bodies and dumped it out in a field. The paper reported that the bodies were assassinated by a drug cartel. People say the death toll was close to 50 but the reported number was much less.
In the end, all prison employees were moved out and I believe the Feds started running the prison. This place often has 30 to 40 people housed in rooms for 6. The conditions are terrible and on Wednesday one person from each room can see a doctor. If 5 people are sick....only one gets to see a doctor. It is not a nice place in the least.
