I began mongering in TJ in 1996 and the prices have gone up, though still a relative bargain. Back then, Chicago had all the hot girls, and Adelitas was a little more "down Home" in terms of selection. in '97 the standard price quote was $50, but most would settle for $40. Now, the hot girls ask for $70. Most girls are available for $60. True, the room has now increased to $11 up from $10. Street girls are $15-20, which is probably the best bargain outside of SE Asia.
My guess about why prices have gone up is that the popularity of TJ has gone way up in recent years. Plus, now, the girls are a lot better looking than before, After all, someone has to pay for the Silicone.

A quick story from "back then" (late 1980s). Once I was walking back from some bars on Revolucion Ave alone as people I were with were getting out of hand and starting fighs and it was late. Anyway, I'm walking across a crosswalk and a taxi came into the crosswalk. I was annoyed and glared at the driver and looked in the taxi and there were two girls in the back. One kind of looked at me and then rolled down the window and gestured for me to come over. Its funny, but my sense is that the price of the girls in the Zona really hasn't gone up that much. Certainly, the overall prices in TJ for drinks, food, etc. have gone up incredibly because the prices now are peggedto US dollars -- back in the 80s, beer was like $1.00 or $1.50, but now its $3.00 and $4.00 in many places. But my recollection is that even back in the 80s, the girls were charging $40.00 plus $10.00 or so for the room. I've been going to TJ for almost 30 years, and I don't ever remember the prices as low as Thailand or PI. While some girls now push for $60.00, it seems that the prevailing price is $50.00. So a $10.00 increase in 20 years doesn't seem that bad to me, just my opinion.

TJ is really not that expensive by comparrison. I used to visit Quito before they converted to the US $ and you could hit a MP for 8-$10. I find it pretty amazing that you can still hit a street girl in TJ for 10-$20. Sure, the service won't be the best, but that's damn cheap.

Of the places I have visited recently, a top notch terma girl in Rio will cost you about $40 + $20 for use of the facilities (saunas, showers, lockers and robes). Of course, the typical terma girls service will blow anything in TJ off the planet. To pickup a garota in Rio at a massageplanete or 'Help' you are looking $50 - $200 for an hour to all night

If I remember correctly, Panama City a couple years back was $80 (at Golden Times) for an hour with the best Panama (err, Medelin Colombia) had to offer. $60 on down at lesser MP's. Not sure what Costa Rica is now. I know it's over $40, but at least it's for over 30min.

one thing i wanna know is how did tj get so exspensive in dollars? how much was it back in the 80s and early 90s? how come its not like other countries, even though i've never been to one. but i learned from searching. i heard thailand and phillypeans are very cheap in us dollars. back then i paid 40 the first time i was there in summer '98 and i still pay 40 in '04. room back then was 10 and it went up beacuse of the electricity disaster in the early 2k. can some smart intelligent person give me knowledge on this. thank you sir.
