Gotta agree with the earlier posts. There is really not much action in Ensenada and the prices are a bit steeper than TJ. Also, from what my fishing buddies tell me, the incidence of rip-offs and bad experiences is higher in Ensenada. I was there to go deep sea fishing a few years ago. I forget the names of the gringo bars, but I think there are 2 of them in town. I didn't try out the girls there as I was with respectable company (read former brother in law along on the trip) and didn't want to make a bad impression that would haunt me.

For pure mongering, TJ is not great but is better than Ensenada. For the best all around vacation experience, Ensenada is a nice little town with more to offer a gringo vacationer, such as outdoors activities and amenities (beaches, sightseeing, food). TJ is a cesspool and the battleground of vicious drug wars that spill over onto the tourist areas. When in TJ these days you really have to watch your ass! Don't believe me? Read this article at

Hi guys, The last time I was a monger south of the border was about 18 years ago. Got married and had kids. Yeap, my good old time went out the door.

Anyhow, recent thoughts of having GFE got me reading posts from this site. I am planning a trip alone (friends chickened out.) and want to know if it's worth going to TJ and risk being mugged or go straight to Ensenada for good times. Thanks
