To chit potatoes or to not chit, that is the question?

Hello,

I have been backyard gardening for some time now and I am venturing on anew adventure. I have purchased seed potatoes from a nursery to grow bucket/garbage can potatoes....i might plant some in ground, i'm not sure yet. I heard of chitting or pre-sprouting potatoes before they are planted. Is it really that beneficiary? I'm so excited that I want to plant them right now...but if chitting is better, I can wait some time, i've waited all winter. Is it better to chit? Or plant directly?
I mean, what is the benefits of chitting or pre-sprouting?

Potatoes are so easy, I grew some in containers last year and got wonderful results with placing the entire potato into the growing area. Most were not sprouted; they were just ordinary old supermarket potatoes.
From the scads of potatoes I harvested, it seems as if all the potatoes became plants.
Wait til you taste baby or new potatoes you have just picked- they are sooooo sweet!
If you want to store them, you let them dry a bit, but all of mine were eaten too quickly to try that.

It's not necessary,.... What's more important is if you cut the potatoes, that you let the cut dry out overnight.

If you eat potatoes you will chit them. Anything you eat you will eventually chit.
