To Hot To Handle!

Do ye have air conditioning where you massage currently or what are you doing to work through the heat. Im just using a fan myself but I wish i had AC.

I find business is down during the heat.........anyone else?

I actually cancelled 2 massages that were booked for yesterday - it maybe ok for the client to receive, but boy, I knew i would be flagging by the second! (they are both one straight after the other father/son)

Felt a bit bad at first, but did explain that I didn't want to be passing out on their living room floor - it gets really hot in there at the best of times!

I only have a fan in my room at the clinic too, and yes, business does seem to be down at the moment.

I bought one of this mobile units that you put ice and water in, it helped a little but it does not reduce the temperature in the room, just blows cool air on you.[/align][/align]I have a full day tomorrow so hoping it is a little cooler then.[/align]

I don’t have aircon in my clinic. When it is very hot (as now) I wear a cotton headband of the type worn by some tennis players: it may look slightly unorthodox but it does absorb anyperspiration (and stop it from dripping onto the client !)

Well, no magic answers really. I just wear white shorts with my usual tunic, keep velux windows open both sides of my room which is in a converted loft space so this gives a nice through-flow of air, provide sheet to cover client instead of towel, provide hydrosol sprays for clients if they wish to use them. Yes, I have had a couple of cancellations, but generally people have still come for their treatments.

I purchased a large portable air con that vents out the window and installed it in my master bedroom loft conversion (sleep great!). My residence massage room is one floor down, but I am offering client's the air con by moving the table to the loft when needed.

I'm from Florida (originally) and this is hot even for ME! How come everyone keeps say "It doesn't get hot enough for air con over here"?

I've seenAlan D's solution (headband) used many times. Clients don't care how goofy you may look as long as it'sfor their benefit. I've seen some small, portable one-room air coolers that don't need windows and should fit in any treatment room, but I don't know how noisy they are. How awful to have to scramble for a workable, quick solution to save business.

Here in north Texas it's another lovely42 C day and at 1am it finallydrops to "only" 33 (that's when I do the yardwork so as to avoid heatstroke),you better betA/Cis on April through October! Iset it as low as I can without going broke and always have the table heated for client comfort. Even so, working isstill uncomfortable this time of year, but it doesn't hurt my business any.August is even hotter, because theever-present windstops until the rainsarrive in late September.

I have just bought an Air conditioner / heater combination unit. It was from Homebase retails at £250 but you can get just air conditioner units at £150. Tried it out in the living room and it is fab, expensive but good. Needs to vent out of the window, only down side is that it is a bit loud

Oh wow! If you work full-time in this business how on earth do you keep going in this heat? I hate it with a passion!!! It's even too hot to ride my motorbike as I refuse to compromise on safety and won't ride without full leathers on!

I did a couple of treatments yesterday and a couple the day before and I thought I was going to drown in my own sweat!!!! [:'(] I like the head band idea as it's my head and face that drips the most! It goes in my eyes which stings and then it makes my contact lenses all blurry!

I did have the window open in my treatment room yesterday but I'm on the ground floor, I had to then try and stop my cats climbing in for a look at the room they're not allowed in!!! It's a bit cooler today but the heat really saps the energy out of you doesn't it?

I was sat at work this week imaging that I was making angels in a snow drift just so I could cool down. The air con was overloaded in the office and so it kept blowing fuses all day! I heard somewhere that a retail giant was selling a fan at the rate of one a second but that they had also sold an electric blanket!!!! What we need is a water bed which enables you to cool the water in it significantly. Wouldn't that be bliss for sleeping in this weather!!! [X(]

It's a bit cooler today thankfully.....
