Toronto Star Feature on Holistic Centres

What happened to discretion? If you read some of the ads in Eye or Now, like Full Service available or Oral & Nude its no wonder there is attention drawn to this industry.

Saturday's Toronto Star features a 3-page spread on the Holistic scene in the city, and the actual services that are provided. The article is somewhat accurate, but there are a few things that did bother me. The implication is that 'full service' is available anywhere if the price is right. This couldn't be further from the truth. Only once in 10 years have I been offered FS at a Toronto MP (I declined). Also, of course a poor 'victim' girl 'trapped' in the industry is interviewed. She is supposed to be representative of all the employees. She 'hates all men' while gladly pocketing $500/day.

The article also points out a few incidents of attendents propositioning clients outside the premises. I have never had this happen. Not that it ever has, I just haven't seen it.

The reporter was also offered 'topless and nude' at 1715 Lawrence. I have never been, but on reading reviews of that place on massageplanet.net it is a very legit operation.

Notice thay also feature (on the front page no less) several pictures of the actual studio fronts... with discernable locations...

I wouldn't be surprised, with the resulting "outcry" that is sure to follow, there will be a significant rise in arttention to these places, with a resulting decline in service options...

May just sit back and wait for the dust to settle, as this is a 3 part series (parts 2 and 3 on Monday and Tuesday)

Number of reasons why more charges were not laid. First it was a raid looking for minors not an investigation were several officers visit the place numerous times to gather evidence to lay charges. Second, most spa owers knew other owners and there was a heads up going down the line. Third, some have built in security systems that are triggered when LE sets foot on the premises giving the girls time to straighten out their stituation.

And... "EYE WEEKLY" is owned by "THE TORONTO STAR"!!! Guess all they had to do was look through the pages of their own publication to find some locations. How handy!

I'm sure they have no problem accepting the advertising $$$ they collect from the "Illegal Brothels" What does that make the Toronto Star?

I have gotten laid at MP's (not holistic centres) a lot of times. And often it did not require repeated visits or much more money. But I will admit that some of these Asian places do offer it as if they were standard options. That's why I tend to avoid holistic centres lately, because I'm not comfortable with FS being offered so freely. I didn't realize right away how liberal they are with their services.

But, I will also say this: I have been to several of these Asian massage places (don't know if they're holistic or not) but they're very legit and the attendants don't even take their clothes off. They "may" offer a hj but absolutely nothing more. Why didnt' this get mentioned in the article?



I once saw a girl on a regular basis at one of these holistic centres. She was anything but stupid. She was going to university and she seemed very educated and well-spoken for a newly arrived Asian immigrant. Actually most attendants at that place seemed very educated and intelligent. It's probably because the owner and manager of the place is very smart and kind too. And they offer FS and are very professional and safe about it.



Most guys will back off if they are given a firm no. The girls can offer nude or NR or something along those lines to make a little extra money. IT's a two way street and the girls also have to make some leaps in educating themselves about the business and what goes on, what's acceptable and what can be done.

Everything else i kind of agree with you on. I think the Star should've made a more visible distinction between MP and holistic places.

When is part two going to be published? I was searching for it but couldn't find anything.

I don't care what they do ON Bay street but underneath I wish they could build a tunnel for pedestrians. The current PATH is too far west. And have a couple of MPs down there too.

What a couple of hypocritical turds. You just know that to some degree all men "want IT" and these supposed angels of justice and righteousness (reporters, police and city councillors and politicians) just make me sick. They probably go to these places on a regular basis and hypocritically lambast them on the side. That's the definition of a cowardly turd.

Why don't they do a study on the dating scene and report on how difficult it is to catch a woman's attention these days? Why don't they do a study that all women seem to want these days is either money or an elevated social status from men, whether they're officially MPA's or SPA's or NOT? It basically boils down to the same thing, except that MPA and SPA's are more straightforward and honest about it. At least there's no pretense.

I just love it when the media decides to focus on something that it has no idea about. But the good part about is that you can't stomp out this business. There's too much money in it. But what I'm afraid of is that they might push it too far into the underground, where it's realy dirty and dangerous and that's not a good place to be at for the customers or the workers. I wish people thought before doing something as stupid as publishing a useless article. As it stands now, the majority of MP's are safe and fun for both the customers and attendants. Safe from the streets, safe from criminals and safe from pimps.

If what you describe is true - i havent read the article - then it sounds like the 'reporter' is just trying to make some buck selling a hot article - could get a full service anywhere if the price is right? that could be true to ANY organization, i could go to the Toronto Star's office and offer someone there some bucks for a bang and know what, i probable get it!

to me, this sounds like an irresponsible article that could have some bad backlash ... what were the editor thinking?

personally, i'd be pretty pissed off if i were working at an mp - then again, could be that the LE is too smart to even look at the article ...

The jist of this article is the conundrum the city unwittingly placed itself in regarding intention of "Holistic" licences vs. modern adaptation of them, and the consequent cost to investigate and prosecute charges. This is interesting and worthy journalism.

The reporters' shallow, base pandering nature however mixes in paragraphs about the seedy sex aspect, seemingly from the confirmed assumption that sex is bad. One mention of neighbourhood complaint issue. No mention of illegal aliens, underage, or sex slave issues. Probably an editor ruled that a municipal licensing fiscal deficit issue just ain't good enough, sex it up!


Reference to previous comments about LE impending sweeps/busts - media notification: please remember the intense hatred TO police have for the Star over the racial profiling issue. Seeing as how the assumption of guilt has now become judge-made case law, it is doubtful Metro's finest will ever do anything for or with the Toronto Star.

The city govt and is terribly victimized by this problem. They thought they could make money on all the licenses and it turns out that it is keeping the bylaw department especially busy. Poor babies.

There is usually press every May. That way the cops can relax over the summer. In 1999, there was a story in the Sun told by a cop named Tavernor. He spoke of the tremendous b**********y and organization of his men on Bloor Street. What the paper described did not occur since I was in the area enjoying the lovely weather.

I missed most of it, only caught last 7 minutes before they switched topics after 10:30AM news.

A female caller said her friend, who was running a failing hair salon, rented some of the space out to women she assumed were doing legit massage therapy, but soon knew they were not. Owner called cops, who were apathetic.

Bill Carroll said the holistic licences should only be for legit holistics, but I think he said he had no problem with allowing the MPs to continue if they had the right type of licences. Unfortunately he then added a disingenuous asinine comment about there being something emotionally wrong with men who go to these places, like he remembered his wife might be listening.

I have to agree with alot of what I have read, but personally, I think LS1,
has a real "hard on" for the industry I dont know where you've worked and who has corrupted your brain with all of your agressevly opinionated, thoughts
but I think that, you were probably abused by owners or fellow attendants,
or you were probably not attractive or nice enough to get picked by clients,and that has really hardened you up, I have never been asked to engage in sex by an MPA, and I have frequented both holistic and body rub,
the girls in this industry are not whores nor are they stupid, but there is always a bad apple in the bunch with everything, now on the topic of "Michelle" it sound like she had a rough go in this industry, and maybe shouldnt be in that type enviorment, but needless to say this buisness will always be around whether its "holistic" "Body Rub" "esthetics""chiropractic''
or in an apartment, Its a shame that body rub parlours had to open up under holistic because of only allowing 25 bodyrub parlours but if the city was smart they would lift that cap, and make $10000, a year as opposed to $200, and life would go on.
