FRAMINGHAM – A massage parlor located nearly across from the police station on Union Avenue has been closed after a state and town investigation.
A local group, calling itself the Concerned Citizens of Framingham, wrote a letter of complaint dated Jan. 20 to several town and state boards, complaining about Xin Chinese Bodyworks, located at 62 Union Ave.
On Thursday, Marissa L. Garafano, chief of community health for the Framingham Health Department, sent a letter to the group, informing it the massage parlor had been shut down.
“I am writing to inform you that over the past few days the Framingham Health, Police and Fire Departments along with Framingham Inspectional Services and the state Division of Professional Licensure have been out to inspect the location mentioned in your complaint ,” Garofano wrote. “I would like you to know that the establishment is currently closed, and I do not foresee it reopening.”
Concerned Citizens of Framingham, which did not return an email seeking comment, expressed numerous concerns about the parlor in its complaint.
They alleged that there was a dog living in the parlor, and there were several people illegally living in the basement.
“This is in violation of our zoning by-laws, because the parlor is situated in the CB (commercial/business) district, not a residential district,” the group wrote.
The group also cited 23 reviews on a website that ranked massage parlors based on sexual acts.
“The workers at the ‘massage’ parlor are operating a house of prostitution by engaging in various sexual acts, including sexual intercourse and unprotected oral sex,” the group wrote in the complaint. “In support of these reviews, our male informant was offered a menu of services, including manual simulation by hand, oral sex and sexual intercourse for a fee.”
Neither Garofano nor anyone else from the Board of Health could be reached for comment on Friday. A town inspector referred all calls to the Board of Health.
Chris Goetcheus, a spokesman for the state Division of Professional Licensure, confirmed the massage parlor is under investigation by the state, but would not comment about what exactly is being investigated.
