Trading with a bodybuilder

Hello,

I am looking for some heads up info.

I started attending a local fitness center and the owner contacted me yesterday. He has an employee, a physical trainer and body builder who wants to work out a trade for massage for physical training sessions.

I would have no problems with this. I think it would be of great benefit for me and for him if it works out.

I dont do a lot of trading, but when I have, it was with people I knew fairly well, ie... hair dressers who were in my building. But this guy, I dont know well yet.

I want to be sure we and our work are compatible with one another before we work out a long commitment. I wont be shy talking to him about this. I dont want one of us to be unhappy with the trade and just keep on doing it because we dont want to hurt the other's feelings. I want to give him a trial massage and have him decide if he likes my work.

Other than that, has anyone have experience with the elite physically fit? The majority of my clientel are average or below average in the physically fit caeforum.xxxory. I am not sure what type of massage he is looking for yet, ie relaxation, deep tissue, hot stone, etc... I need to call him later today.

Hi, I work in a fitness center. Most of the trainers/body builders I have worked on are heavy and extremely TIGHT everywhere. I use a lot of deep pressure, deep tissue and Trager just to get their muscles/fascia to relax and stretch a little. I definitely get a work out when I massage them. And I constantly push stretching exercises on them. I wish I had understood the importance of stretching when I was younger I don't do any trades since I am a personal trainer myself and have a work out partner already, but I do give the employees and trainers a discount on massage since they refer so many people to me. I highly recommend a personal trainer for motivation and ingenuity. You will learn so many new and interesting ways to exercise. Maybe you could agree to a trial/short term trade contract and after a few months, sit down and discuss whether it's working out for each of you. Good Luck!

I work with bodybuilders very regularly. It's rare that I have a bodybuilder who wants anything other than deep tissue work. And because they are very physically fit, does not mean they are stretched properly (like the above poster also mentioned). My bodybuilders are not ones for stretching, and usually just make faces when you talk about it, however, a few do get it, and when they do, it makes my massage work on them soooo much easier. The bodybuilders I have worked on have a tendency to just find a new therapist when the old one didn't get deep enough or hit the right spots, instead of telling the therapist. This is what I have experienced in gaining other MT's clients. You're caring enough to try and work with someone, so you shouldn't have too much trouble there.

Everyone is different, but this is what I have found. I'd hope they'd love the hot rocks, but I've never experienced anyone except for a runner/walker and a tennis player asking for this.

Sounds like a wonderful trade to me. Just prepare for some hard work on both ends of the trade.


PS: I have a bodybuilder who gets a 2 hour deep tissue every week for the most part. Depending on the trainers size, you may want to consider longer sessions.

Thanks for the info. He is in his early to mid 20's and not too too big. He is built more like one of the buff rappers rather than Hulk Hogan. I have no doubt though that he wants to get bigger.

I am ready for the hard work on both ends!! I plan on losing a lot of weight. I have lost a few friends from high school lately and my age is starting to catch up to me. I am actually enjoying my work out sessions, they feel sooo good! I am setting up an appointment with a dietician as well. I am taking this very seriously and will succeed.

Went to the fitness center today to work out and spoke with the trainer. We were very open with each other about wanting the trade to go well. We agreed to 2 training sessions each week for a 90 minute session each week for the next three weeks. After the second week, we will reevaluate how the trade is going and decide if we will continue it past 3 weeks.
I brought my appointment book along with me to get all the appointments in with the trainer.

A woman next to me on the eliptical machine started a conversation with me. Professions were brought up and she asked where I worked. She had heard of me because she had received a coupon from the animal shelter's walk for kindness. She said she was going to call to make an appointment. I told her I had my appointment book with me and we booked her appointment on the spot. I think I may bring my appointment book more often!

Well, the session went well and he liked his massage.

He admitted to being tight because he never stretches, lol. He may think he was tight, but I have worked on people who were more tight!

I thought he was in his mid to late 20's, but it turns out he just turned 20!! He is only 5 years older than my son, practically to the day! I just cant imagine my son having any thing close to this guys build! My son is 5'4" and weights about 140. The client is 5'10" and told me he weighs about 230. 230!!! That is alot of muscle!!

It is like working on an anatomy model! I have never worked on a body as sculpted as his. All the muscles pop out so nicely and it is so easy to find the attatchments.

I find that the majority do not stretch... they think it is for wussy men... I yell at them. The other problem is that sometimes they work out so much that they no longer can raise their arms or put them completely at their sides. I love the looks on their faces when I tell them taht they are creating their problems by lifting so much.

Yes, I think they know it too.

Because you mentioned it ealier, I was sure to ask him if he stretched. He said, "No, I dont, but dont tell anyone I said that!" I chuckled to myself.

He went on to say that it is preached, but not practiced much for him or other bodybuilders and then he laughed.

Since we're talking about bodybuilders, I wanted to relay some more info, in case you need it.

I had a new bodybuilder client come in Saturday. Always be prepared for them to tell you "the truth". This client decided to relay he's on steroid injections, and some other muscle building injections. So, the injection sites were tender and his muscles were really hard - yet puffy (if that makes sense).

It's something else to keep in mind that I forgot to mention.

And one other thing. Many bodybuilders go on a "super-diet" right before competition and looking at him reminded me of the following: my bodybuilders have gotten real cranky right before the competition due to this diet. :yikes:
