Travel Clocks

Greetings to all.

I would like to find out what kind of travel clocks anyone uses with their on-site work that travel well, are not "loud" (don't tick or make the clunk-clunk sounds as the second hand moves), are heavy duty and are under $20.

Anyone have any good suggestions. For years I have been picking up my little clocks at the dollar store (and of course these seem to always make that "noise"), because invariably I leave them at the hotel or where ever I am and I think my mind is finally starting to calm down enough to remember to grab that clock and take it with me!

Let me know what clocks are on the market you know about.

That clock is a popular one in these parts. I have seen many MT's using them in thier offices.

That's what I thought at the time Blisss, as the place I was working out of did not have a "climate control system" in the upstairs where I worked. Therefore sometimes they would schedule a 8 AM massage on a cold Monday morning in January and it'd be so cold up there that you could see your breath. And you know despite having a table warmer clients were a bit reluctant to get undressed and on the table. :roll: (I'd turn on the "fireplace" type thing they had to heat the upstairs with, but it wasn't adequate and took a long time to heat the entire space.)
There was one day in the summer several years ago when it was rather hot and humid outside when I came in to do a 9 AM massage. They told me to leave the door open from the downstairs (which was inadequately air conditioned itself) and not to open the windows upstairs that day. I went upstairs, did the massage and came downstairs an hour later with my makeup literally running down my face. I left right afterwards and the bank just a couple blocks away said it was 94 degrees at 10 AM. I was sick for about 3 days afterwards. It was at that point I decided no more massages up there if it was over 80 degrees up there.
So yeah, I think it's important to have an idea of the temperature in my treatment room. Both for my comfort as well as the clients!

Can you see it well in a dim room too?

Well the numbers on mine are pretty big... and it's not super well lit in the room I have it in now, and I can see the current time.
But it's not "back lit" unless I touch a button... so would probably have to go with "it depends" on being able to see it well in a dim room. :

What about a nurses fob watch that you pin to your uniform.

The only slight downside for me is that when I'm not wearing my uniform and want to know the time I end up looking down at my right breast where the watch would normally be - lol

I would like to find out what kind of travel clocks anyone uses with their on-site work that travel well, are not "loud" (don't tick or make the clunk-clunk sounds as the second hand moves), are heavy duty and are under $20.

May not be under the $20 mark and it's not a clock - It depends if you want a clock for the time or a clock to time your sessions.....

Cheapest option, For outcalls, I have a few 60min CDs and know how long the last track is so I don't have to look at a clock. I'm not doing that many outcalls these days, so, it doesn't really matter I'm hearing the same 2 or 3 CDs for every outcall', clients dont'seem to mind either, but they only listen to it once every 2 to 4 weeks anyway, and something familiar for the regulars seems be ok.

Since I started doing beauty it all got much more complicated, perming and tinting eyelashes, you've got to get the timing right, I could never remember to look at a clock to check the start time, let alone check the end time. Enter the timer I't digital, it has 2 ways of of telling you time is up, and you can use one, 2 or all 3 of them - a ring, which is as rude as an alarm clock, a red flashing light, and vibrating. It has clip on it. I usually just use the flashing light option, set it up next to the supplies and wait for the red light to start flashing. I think it can work as a clock too.

melb - I also go with the 1 hour timed CD's. I still like a back up, in case the CD player doesn't work (have had that happen). The flashing light sounds like a good idea, as does the clip on, as I can't always see if I haven't got the contacts in or the glasses or off. I am all about multi-purpose!

Pueppi, it seems like the Nurses Fob Watch tends to be more of a UK and Australian thing. From doing a quick search on the net, it seems that it's a little harder for us to locate that sort of thing.

Around here the watches tend to be to hook to a Nurses landyard. Which because we sometimes use forearms to do deep tissue massage might mean that we're close enough for a lanyard to interfere with our work.

Update: I ended up finding this clock, which has served me well! I haven't broken it yet, and it is silent. It has a backlight which only lights if you click on the snooze/light button, and it stays on for just a few seconds... long enough to guage the time if you are in a place where you can't see to well.

I use a ipod speaker/clock combo. It's small, lightweight and works great for listening to the music and the clock is nice, big and lighted. Of course I have to set the clock quick before I start the massage, but I just set it for the beginning of an hour, any hour,(usually it defaults to 12:00) so I know how much time has passed.
