I treated a client who had had a recent stroke a little while ago. They came to me as they were having trouble sleeping as the stroke had caused them quite a lot of stress and changes to their life.
If the stroke has affected one side of their body and they have reduced sensations, I would use lighter pressure on that side. Reflexology and massage can really help in the rehabilitation of stroke patients. My clients physio/occupational health worker advised they saught massage and/or reflexology. They said that as long as it wasn't vigourous circulatory massage then it would be very beneficial.
Definitly work the spine and head as you've already mentioned and I would also work the circulatory, heart, head, adrenals, neck, and pituitary. I'd also be inclined to work all of the zones on the side that was affected too.
Check what meds they are on now too - if they are on blood thinners, use lighter pressure.
