treating elderly people and liver problems

hey guys

i have an elderly client looking reflexology. she has psoriasis of the liver but theres another name for this and she said she doesnt actually have the psoriasis, if that makes sense and has to go to the hospital every six months because of it. has anyone ever come across this before?

also she has a condition of the spine, her bones may be brittle or are becoming brittle. has any one had any experiences with these or should i carry out a treatment?

Do you mean cirrhosis of the liver? (Psoriasis is a skin condition).
If she doesn't know what she actually has, and you are concerned about her history, then it may be worth asking her to chat to her GP to see if he is OK with her receiving treatment. Is she taking any supplements to help with the osteoporosis?
I would be tempted to give her reflexology, but just as a relaxation, rather than a 'treatment'.

yeah it is the primary biliary cirrhosis. has anyone had experience with this before and can it be worked on for reflex?

I would treat - but work very carefully as the feet may be extremely sensitive as there may be quite a few painful reflexes particularly liver, gall bladder diaphragm. It cannot do any harm and may help this client feel a bit more comfortable or at least slightly more relaxed under the circumstances.

Let us know how you get on and what your findings are. It always help if you can talk to the GP, but not all GP's are amenable to this.

i told her to get a doctors note just in case. how would you know what areas to work to help this? would you work just the systems that the liver lies in?

Hi Jennahunni,

You can treat the Liver Pancreas, and all glands according to Dwight C. Byers in his book better Health with Foot Reflexology for cirrhosis (this is an excellent reference book).

Ensure advice is given about drinking plenty of water as their system will be less able to detoxify efficiently.
