UK Teens: How do you feel about David Cameron introducing "national service"?

"David Cameron today vowed to make all 16-year-olds enlist in a non-military national service programme in a bid to solve the 'very modern problem of alienated, angry young people.'

In his social fightback speech the Prime Minister announced the National Citizen Service scheme as part of the government's effort to 'reclaim the country's streets'.

Mr Cameron said the programme - currently being undertaken by just several thousand youngsters a year, would be compulsory for every 16-year-old and would capture the essence of national service."

Apparently from next year they are going to force us all to go canoeing and stuff for THREE weeks.

:O. I hope they dont or it takes them longer than a year to sort it out! what happens if you dont go lol x

As a 16 year old in the UK i think it sounds quite good actually.

Imagine the fun you would have? Sounds more like a 'team building exercise' than cracking down on 'alienated, angry young people'

I don't see it sorting out any major problems young people have though.

I think a national service only works if people find the government fairly agreeable already--you can't use it to make them like the government, because they'll just see it as more negative government influence in their lives.

No doubt people will moan ,its not exactly National Service, that would cos billions to adminster, but it may stop people getting bored and causing trouble.

I think it's a brilliant idea, despite being older than 16. I'd have loved to take part in stuff like that.
