I am fairly comfortable, and confident in what I am doing, but am wondering if there are things I could be doing differently.
I have a client, mid 30's, diagnosed with breast cancer for the 2nd time. First time she had a lumpectomy, and lymphectomy. She regrets doing this. Has lost some sensation in one arm due to superficial nerves being cut during the removal of some lymphnodes for a biopsy. This was before I saw her.
Now, the cancer is back, in the same breast. She is refusing any and all treatment. She doesn't want the side effects of chemo, radiation, or surgery. She is very much an alternative/spiritual thinking type of person. She is in contact with her medical doctor, who is monitoring the growth of the cancer. She meditates, and is doing "A Course of Miracles" (spiritual book on the "real" teachings of Jesus)
She is seeing me now for pain in her shoulders due to computer work. The L one is more restricted I think because of scar tissue. She does self breast massage, as directed by her physician, so I don't think lymphatic drainage would be out of the question.
At the moment I am doing a lot of active release on her for the adhesions in her shoulders, sweedish massage, trigger point work and stretching. This is what she wants, and I"ve been wracking my brain, as to whether there is anything else I could be doing, other than what she wants and supporting her decision to refuse treatment.
