i want to thank all contributors to this forum in advance... i have a very good feeling about this. the information i found in all these threads proved to be so valuable to me in preparing my presentation.
i travel to my home town once a month, to visit family and i also provide massage for residents there. i am building business, but since i don't have a real presence in town ( i am traveling in from out of state), it is going slowly. i recently bought a massage chair, and decided it is time to put it to work.
my mom has been working at a bank there for just over a decade, and i got an appointment to speak with the bank president. of course, i brought my chair to the meeting for a demonstration.
i brought some research on chair massage, and massage in the workplace. i made a nice flyer, and wrote an article about the causes of repetitive strain injuries and how massage can interrupt that negative cycle. i also made a chair massage facts sheet, as suggested in another post, and i printed a copy of the report with the schulman study. i presented him with all the information, which i asked he read over later. i paraphrased some of the benefits listed, but he wanted to get down to business...
"ok, we know the benefits of massage, but what is this going to COST the company?"
i told him, "NOTHING, i propose that the employees pay for their own massage."
i did leave the option open for them to cover some or all of the cost if they desired, but i told him why i personally felt it was best for employees to pay for their own time. then, he was eying the chair...
so i asked him, "are you ready to find out how this works?" i think the demonstration helped to seal the deal...
he told me, "i don't know about everyone else around here, but i know i could use this regularly."
ultimately, he doesn't make these types of decisions anymore. he said he used to make them all himself. now, they rule by committee. so he will take my proposal, along with his opinion to the committee next week. he paid me for the demonstration, he insisted. he seemed to be very impressed at how organized and professional i am, and he later told my mom that he really liked my quality of massage and he "should know because he's had a lot of massages." (i always think it's funny when someone says that.) after my demonstration with the president, i took my chair into one of the loan officer's office, and also gave him a chair massage. he is currently one of my table clients, AND just happens to be on the committee.
i feel really good about this one. seems like i am just waiting for them to say, OK.
