Want your tires installed for free? Go to Costco, ask them to put your tires on.
Watch them through the viewing window. You will see them use a air powered gun to fasten your tires to your car.
Wait till you get the bill from the Cashier/CSR person at the auto centre desk and then tell them you want a refund of the charges owing and that you will not pay for the service they just performed.
You will be asked to explain.
Point to the big sign right beyond the desk, in the auto centre area that say your tires will be hand torque to spec, for $15 per tire. Tell them your tires were air-tooled and not hand-torqued, and therefore, Costco didnt deliver the services as promised and you will not pay for a service that wasn't agreed upon.
I just got my tires put on for free today. I had to hand torque them when I got home, but still, they did most of the work for me. I fucking hate when mechanics use air tools to secure my tires. They always either under-tighten or over-tighten them.
Also, check you air pressure. On one set of my winter tires, I am on my 7th year of those tires and I think I can go another 3 years on them, for 10 years total. I check my air pressure almost monthly and by doing so, my tires last a super fucking long time. I drive about 25 to 30K per year, so I do alot of miles and I get super long service life out of my tires.
Dont believe anyone who tells you winter tires only last a few seasons. The wear indicators on the new Michelin Winter Tires are basically down to the base of the tread, so you know those tires are designed to last and last and last. Even Pirellis have wear indicators that indicate you can use about 80% of the tread.
You are welcome.
