Water fountain in treatment room?

I read somewhere that a water fountain should not be used in the treatment room and am wondering why? Can anyone shed some light on this?

No idea the reason why they say you shouldn't but.......I don't have one in my room because the constant sound of running water makes me want to go potty WAY to much!

Yes, Shannon, that is the reason we were always taught in school..... who wants to have a client have to jump up off of the table in the middle of a massage .... not exactly relaxing I don't believe. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree, a fountain in the treatment room for me as a client makes me have to go to the bathroom. I do enjoy a fountain in the reception area.

Hmm, another school myth I was taught that as well about fountains. In the 6 years, I have been a massage therapist with a fountain in my room, only about five times has a client had to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of a session.

Fountains can be a pain, because you need to keep them clean, but all my clients liked having it in there.

I have a fountain in my room and it's extremely rare for a client to need to get up during the massage to go potty. Mine is a fountain with rocks in it so the sound is more of a trickle rather than a gushing sound. My clients find it quite relaxing and I enjoy it also.

Well, I guess if the client goes to the restroom before getting on the treatment table, there would be less of a chance of an interupted session. I love fountains and find them to be very relaxing personally. I have not experienced one in a treatment room though, so I guess I don't actually have an opinion on that. Perhaps it depends on the individual as well.

I have one in my room, a gentle stream of water... no overly sounding like a waterfall or a tap turned on. No one has seemed bothered by it.

I had a massage in a room with a very loud fountain once. It was acutally quite relaxing, after I stopped being worried it inducing bladder envy. LOL (I went before the massage)

me too! love the fountain and in fact, it's a must for my tx room. i've had a very loud one to drown out noise from a busy hair salon, and even now, in private practice i have one that is quieter - and i have never had a client get up in the middle of a session. they all get relaxed much more quickly, imo.

I have 2 fountains in my tx room and my clients love it too! It does act to block out unwanted sound, and a big plus, put one by the door to reception area or tx room and feng shui says that it brings in money!! So just an added benefit!! I also like to have all the elements in my tx room and a fountain brings water, creating a balance! Just my thoughts! Oh and none of my clients have ever complained about the water making them have to pee!

I, too, have a (self-made) fountain in my treatment room and have not had a problem with clients having to go potty during the treatment. Sometimes I have a pregnant women ask me not to plug it in during the treatment because it does trigger the need to "go."

I have read in some Feng Shui books that Feng Shui discourages water fountains in treatment rooms because it creates too much energy and may interfere with the ability to relax. I guess it's a personal thing, but I like having it there, and so do my clients.

chaulk another one up for having a fountain in the treatment room. i love, love, love my fountain in my room. i've never had trouble with clients needing to use the restroom and i've had a fountain in my treatment room for years. and my fountain simulates the sound of rain.

I have music with "fountains" and "running water" in the CD's and never had a problem with people needing to go for a "comfort break". (I heard this term the other day and thought it to be one of the nicest ways to speak of going to the restroom, I have ever heard. -- So, I thought everyone else may like to know about this too! )

I have worked in another therapists room who had a fountain (small and trickling) without any problem.

And intermittently (rarely) I use one in my own room at work.

I have to say, it makes a nice background noise and the clients seem to enjoy it. I enjoy working with one too.

I used to work with another therpaist who had a fish tank in her room. It was quite nice as well.

For those with fountains then their massage rooms: Do you play music when your fountain is on? I can see how some types of music, combined with fountain noise, may be distracting and annoying.

I had a fountain in my treatment room at the fitness club, and never once had anyone interrupt their massage to use the restroom. I did play music, also, Gessika. The only music that ever annoyed me with the fountain also annoyed me without it, lol. I just stuck it in the sauna room by that stereo, so I wouldn't accidently play it again.

I have a fountain in my room and like RoS I've never had any complaints. I play "normal" massage music and it never interfers with the sounds from the fountain. That said....my fountain is over in the corner is isn't very noisy....just a little background noise.

I also see a therapist who has a fountain in her room and same thing....never any problems and I've never felt that the music was competing with the fountain for my attention.

I have a HUGE fountain in my massage room - and I was actually a little nervous about having it in there for this very reason mentioned above. But a friend who is really into feng shui highly recommended that it be in that corner, so I tried it - and my clients LOVE it there. in 2 years can only think of a handful of people need to go in the middle of a session.

Fire & Water

Hi,

I've got a fountain and a fireplace in my treatment room...

Although there is a goodly bit of water flowing through the fountain, the way it falls over the slate barely makes a sound (unless I need to put more water in it, in which case, it's pretty loud).

Anyway, clients love the space...
