It really depends on what the average for your area is.  Here in rural ND I set my prices to those of the closest city, rates have increased there since I opened though.  $45 full hour  $25 Half hour$70 1.5 hour$65 Hot Stone massageWhen I move to said city (begining of next year) I will raise my rates, as I am on the cheaper end now- but didnt want to raise rates here in my small town.

Hi Tara.My business is in the Boston/Somerville area and I charge $70/hour, $100/1.5 hours.  A friend of mine in Arlington recently raised her rate to $85/hour (not sure about 90 minute session). The market will bear a higher rate in this area, especially if you're an accomplished MT.

Thanks for starting this thread.  I was just going to start this today (but you did it for me).We are in the process of considering raising our rates, due to necessity.  However, I am very concerned about our clients.  We have clients who need regular work and I don't want to make things to where they can't afford our care, plus we really like our clients and would hate to see them leave.  I know for the type of work we do, we are not charging as much as we should, but I still worry.  I guess I am sort of between a rock and a hard spot.  Need to raise, don't want to loose clients and don't want clients to feel like they are being taken advaneforum.xxxe of.We haven't raised rates in about 7 years.Currently:$60/hour-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Considering:$75/hourAny thoughts?

TG, I'm not familiar with the type of work you do.  Currently my rates are:$30 - 30 min$55 - 60 min$80 - 90 minand I just started a "standing appointment" maint. plan which saves client $10.  That's the only "deal" I've got going and the only one I plan to have.

Allmost 98% of my work is deep and/or very therapeutic... "medical type massage" if a name must be put to it.  

And, as of yesterday, I have become comfortable in raising the rates as planned... but that is for another thread, I think.

Texas-gal have you noticed its us women that have a hard time raising our prices or charging someone. The men seem to have an easier time with its a business this is my price and yes I'm worth it. I'm saying this because I have felt that way and I have noticed other MT's are having the same problem. Just an observation.Trish

I haven't noticed this in my area.  In fact, it was a woman who suggested I raise my rates.  But, I appreciate the observation all the same.  Thanks for teh input.
