What behavior will cats typically show when being introduced?

I recently took in a stray cat and am wanting to introduce my cat to this new one. They have smelled each other through closed doors and they have gotten glimpses of one another when I open the door to feed the new cat in its safe room. When I do introduce the cats together, what behavior can I typically expect to see?
My current cat I have had for eight years. We had another cat before this one and he and my cat did not get along at all. She felt very threatened by our former cat, who played rough: running toward her to play was seen by her as threatening.

Arched backs, hissing. General hostility. Unless you have REALLY nice cats that are REALLY friendly, you need to expect them not to be very friendly. You should probably only have them together for an hour a day to start, and then lengthen the amount of time they are together as time progresses. We have two cats, and we introduced my cat as a kitten. The adult wasn't too friendly, but now they are very interdependent. They love each other.

There is really no way of telling. I had a cat for a couple of years and got another cat, and they seemed to be okay together but then would always hiss at each other, then my original cat ran away
They clearly didn't get along, but like I said there isn't really anyway of telling. I think it depends on your cats personality.

Hissing at each other is a typically behaviour when you first introduce them.

When my two cats first meet the older one hissed at the new one. The new one which is a kitten just kind of chilled out till the dog was let in.
