I was wondering what people thought about promoting 1/2 price birthday massages some time near their birthdays (in general) verified or unverified by drivers license or other birthdate checker? (the above questions updated November 29, 2004)Thanks for your feedback.I was wondering if this would be a good idea to promote?What do you think?

I am always torn on this one.  It seems like such a great idea but I find that people tend to come in right around their birthday as a gift to themselves.  So this makes me think, "why should I offer them half off when they are willing to come in at the full rate?"  Although I really like the idea of taking care of regular clients by sending them a "birthday treat".  I guess if you think about it in the context of "building business"...it certainly isn't going to put much money in the bank.  It seems to be something nice to offer to clients to show that you care.

how about $5.00 or $10.00 off for their birthday? that way, youre still getting paid for yuor work, while offering a birthday incentive. i usually only offer discounts when business is SLOW (helps to pick up the pace a bit, remind those that have strayed...)

That is one of the tactics I used to beef up business at a busy upscale athletic club. Worked like a charm! The club was so happy that I thought it up, and would do that. They promoted it by including it as a "perk" for membership.I also comp'ed chair massage there, so I got to know the members well, by sight recognition. Thus no need to check ID or driver's license. As the clientele were busy professionals, I also let them redeem it anytime. Many upgraded to an hour or hour and a half.My regulars grew steady from that source of marketing. I was massively booked within a year.Of course, you do get that one or two who only come in for their "freebie"...but so what? The fun part was that they came back for their massage *lol*Gi

I do it for my clients because you want to show them that you care enough about them to offer them this discount.  I had a new client see my website and call for the birthday deal, I reluctantly gave it to her but I see her once a month, so, it was a good risk.  Besides, would you rather have half of your full rate or nothing?

So it sounds like we are talking about two different things. 1) already established clients receiving a 1/2 off or other discount on their birthdays and 2) 1/2 off birthday to anyone in order to drum up business.I never thought to give the offer to anyone other than already established clients. I keep a card catalog of their birthdays and send a postcard when their birthday month is up coming with a discount to be used during their birthday month. You could give them a free upgrade in their reg. treatment, say add hot stones to a paid for hour etc... I don't think I would give a free or half off to someone who is not already a client unless I was doing the fish bowl idea that came up in another post.

It's worth a try to see what happens.From one point of view, I can see if it's around someones birthday time and they may be talking with certain people more than usual and, they may mention it to others.Give people something to talk about.
