What product do you use it reflexology, do you use, massage oil, talc, a reflexology powder or nothing?

I use a little unperfumed talc for the treatment and finish off with a foot massage using a little plain lotion with two or three drops of essential oil, blended to suit the client. (I am an aromatherapist also).

I used to use unperfumed corn starch, although I also had one with chamomile and tea tree essential oils in it which was nice. However, nowadays I use Tui Bee Balme massage wax. It's gorgeous, really moisturising for the feet and, provided you don't use too much, doesn't cause your thumbs to slip.

I use a tiny bit of aqueous cream for the treatment. It's not too slippy. I dab a small amount onto the back of each hand at the base of the thumb and when I feel my thumbs are getting a bit dry I just dab the little bit of cream.

I was taught to use talc, but since it has been proven to contain carcinogenic compounds, I thought it would probably be best to use some else when I start to practise professionally. An organic moisturiser such as the one Ismorgan mentions would be good...and non-toxic

We have a product here in the USA that I found recently that I really like a lot. It's called "Udderly Smoooth" and it is a formula that is used on dairy farms in cold climates for, actually, udders! It's a great consistency and quite safe because I'm sure it would not be approved for that use if it had any dangerous ingredients.

Sooo, as a former dairy famer's daughter, it gets a very strong "MOOOO" rating from me Also, no obnoxious odours.

For some clients, I also use a bit of essential oil depending on the particular situation. One of my favorites is from the Young Living line, and it's called "Valor". It has a lovely smell, and helps especially where the client has experienced pronounced discomfort during treatment.

i ask the client whehter they would prefer oil or talc and i have never to date upon qualifying done a talc session. I use my sweet almond oil - i find i am able to glide better with it.

Yep. Got that. Waiting with baited breath. Of course, if they put any kind of oils in it then I can't use it for my pregnant clients. Not an aromatherapist after all, so I stear clear of them.

There will be oils in the Tui Reflexology wax - can't remember which, other than spearmint. I think it was devised in association with the tutors at the Middlesex School of Complementary Medecine, so you could always speak to them about using them on pregnant clients (they sell Tui there, so they should be able to advise).

You don't have to be an aromatherapist to use pre-blended products.

i would have thought that most products that are pre blended will be so diluted as to have little effect, apart from the smell being beneficial. but its always best to use caution.

i use nothing for the treatment but use the strictly professional pedicure lotion for the foot massage at the end. i have used this on pregnant clients also, as it happens. lavender, tea tree and peppermint... but as i say, extremely diluted.

I would also imagine that pre-blended products that are unsuitable for pregnant women would have to have a warning stating this as they are available for use by non-aromatherapists.

I use a body powder which contains corn starch as a base instead of talc (as it's carcinogenic). I alternate using a plain one, or ones with EOs preblended in. I find powder the best as I don't slip over points and can effectively work all of them without any added friction. Oils just make my fingers slide over them and I feel I miss points - more like giving a massage rather than reflex. Finish with the unscented Tui nai balm as it gives the client a really nice foot massage at the end which they love and moisturisers their feet.

I was trained to use cornstarch powder, but prefer not to use anything. If I'm doing a foot massage at the end I use plain almond oil.

I use the Tui Reflexology Wax and it's unperfumed, you can get ones with oils in it but mine hasn't any smell and is really nice to use.

Since qualifying last year I have never used talc - I use nothing - apartfrom them foot massage at the end - I use a reflexology base cream which I buy from a supplier down the road from me. Do you think that using oil or cream during the session would help p[inpoint? I dont want to slide all over the place....

I use talc for treatment.

For the massage it depends on circumstances.....if I'm short of time I don't apply anything else as the talc has enough 'slip'.

Otherwise I use whatever oil I have with me either sweet almond or grapeseed, or otherwise I use a perfumed body lotion or aqueous cream.

I used to add e o to the cream or oil, but don't do it now.
