What does it mean when a guy introduces you to his family?

so. I like this guy. I'm pretty sure he likes me back, and we flirt all the time. The usual stuff, messing around, always together when we're with our group of friends. Everyone knows that there is something going on, and i think were that couple that everyone is just waiting to get together. Anyways, we've been trying to go surf together for the first time for weeks. We decided to go yesterday, but he called me and said that his whole family was going. I expected him to say that it was going to be a family thing and that we would go another day. I had never met anyone from his family except for his little brother. But, he invited me along. I went to his house for this first time and met his parents and brothers. we hung out a bit, and then went out and surfed while his family hung out on the beach. We all went and ate after. I didn't really talk to his family because they were all speaking spanish, but I talked to his dad a bit. I talked to him a bunch, in the car there and back, and it was a great day. The first time we hung out with out any of our other friends there. I really felt like his girlfriend being introduced to the fam. I know that none of our friends from the group has been introduced to the family, not even any of the guys. I just want to know what you guys think. Is this big step, or is it not really? I was just curious, because I thought that I would never really hang out at his house, or with his family.
