What happens to 2g network when a service provider introduces 3g network?

3G facility in mobile networks will be introduced in India soon.
Then what will happen to the 2g network technology already available? 2G network will be uninstalled when they install 3G? Or both will be available everywhere?

What is happening in 3G using countries? They stopped using 2G?

Thats what I guess, both will be available in the same time. That is only a guess, how can you sure?

What countries with 3G do? I guess 3G will be available in selected areas. Again, a guess.

Can someone tell me an example what is happening in countries using 3G? can give me some links?

Both networks will be available at the same time.
If you've got a 3G enabled smartphone you will get 3G.
If you're phone has no 3G support you will recieve 2G.

It's pretty simple and straightforward.
