what is a fair % - massages at a non-profit birthing center

I have been volunteering at a local birthing center for about 5 hours each week. This has been great - I am so appreciated donating my prenatal massages. It has also gotten my name out there a little, and given me the practice I really needed.

I am starting to get calls from pregnant women - referred by midwife. Today the she and I discussed my working in one of the rooms on other days. The women would book directly with me and pay me directly. I, in return, would give the birthing center (a non-profit) a perceneforum.xxxe of what I am paid. It sounds good since I don't currently have a place to work out of yet. I would be booking the women, providing all the sheets, oil, pillows, etc and doing all my own laundry. Basically I am providing everything since they've never had a MT there - they're just providing the room & some referrals. (however, I will also be drumming up my own business)

What is a fair % to suggest to the midwife/director of the birthing center? The midwife said to give her a proposal and she's most likely accept it, but I want to be fair in both her direction and mine.

I'd suggest renting the room by the day. Are you set on only doing %?

Thanks for your reply! Renting the room by the day is something I hadn't thought of... I guess I would have to have a certain number booked for that day to make it worth it. What amount (for the day) do you suggest that I propose to her?

You could also go with a perceneforum.xxxe with a cap. For instance, if you charge $75 per hour, give the center 15% with a cap of $500 per month.

Perceneforum.xxxe with a cap is a nice way for starting out without any clients, but ultimately I think straight rent is the better way to go for all parties. I did a % with a cap once, the situation was 30% with a cap of $150/week for six months then it went straight to rent. But I had use of the room all week.

The first thing I recommend is to figure out how much it will cost you per client and what your rates will be. This will give you an idea of what you will net per session. This is the number you need to work off of when looking at perceneforum.xxxes or rent amount.

This will also help clarify the decision you make when you sit down with the midwife. You can say, 'If I'm charging $60/hour, it is actually $xx/hour after expenses. That's the number I used to come up with x% or $x/week.'

Some questions for you:
What is the 'going rate' for a room rental in your area?
What is the 'average' rate for massage in your area?
Based on your schedule how many clients can you see in a week?
Would you have full time access to this room?

This info may help us look at and think about some numbers to suggest to you.

Remember too, if this is a non-profit org, then perhaps they will charge less then the going rate in the area as they are not looking to make money but cover expenses and offer a service to folks.
