What is a good way to introduce my new chinchilla?

I have been keeping their cages next to eachother, and switching their cages. I put them in a playpen together, and the first time, they were completly fine, but then i put them in again, and my older one spray my newer one with urine, and bit his nose. My newer one is less than a year old and a male that is nuetured. My older one is 2 years old, and is female. What should I do to have them be able to go into the same cage. I ordered the double unit critter nation for them, but I need them to get along before They live in it together. Also, How often can I put them in the playpen together?
