I enjoy being a massage therapist, but I realize it is definitely not for everyone. A lot of people are attracted to the short amount of training, or do it because they think is sounds fun. There is a lot of misunderstanding about income too. Many believe that charging $60 an hour means you make $60 an hour. Income for massage therapy is a big varible that depends on you location, experience, and work arrangements.
Those who want work for themselves often expect to open their own business and have it instantly busy. It takes time and often they get discouraged and quit. I enjoy having my own business and the flexibility it provides. I can go to work for a couple of hours and make a decent amount of money.
Also, massage therapists are prone to getting burned out by being over worked by employers who think massage therapist should provide 8 massages a day. A typical massage therapist should provide about 25 hours of massage time per week.
Massage therapy is hard work, but gratifying and satisfying for those who are suited for the field.
