What is proper etiquette when getting a massage?

I've never gotten a massage before. I'm a dude and the thought of another dude rubbing my back is... uncomfortable. I'd prefer a woman, but is it improper to ask? Could they say no? Also, what is the proper amount for a tip? Answers to these questions would be appreciated as would any additional advice. Thank you.

Of course you can ask! They are there to make you comfortable. If they are unwilling to grant your request, don't go there!
Tip is usually about 20%

It depends on where u are receiving the massage ,, if its at a mall really anything goes, It doesn't warrant a tip however as with any service if u are super satisfied feel free to tip it will always be appreciated that may let them know that they have really did something right for you so if you returned they know what you like but on the flip side I am not sure if they will be expecting a tip and will be let down if u don't, If your receiving it from your chiropractor then this is already a covered service and you are not required to tip.

It's perfectly normal to request a woman. Also, you can tell them what pressure you'd like. Do not get deep tissue. It hurts.

Go to a place with females and ask for one specifically. They will understand, they want you to be relaxed and come back, if its uncomfortable they know they won't get your return business.
Give them about 20% or $20 at a minimum.
Don't listen to Matt the cheap azz below my post... They get tips and don't think you want "extra" giving a massage is hard work and they are trying to make a living.
