What is the best way to introduce yourself when someone forgets to make an

introduction? Today I was visiting a clients office with my supervisor. Someone he knew came in to chat while we were working. I expected him to introduce us but he never did.

I think the other guy was wondering who I was. The situation was awkward to me.

Should I have introduced myself? What's the best thing to do?

Be assertive and take control of the situation. Extend your hand for the other person to shake and say, "Hi! I'm asker, my supervior's assistant," or whatever your name and title is. It's professional.

Watch them as they chat. If the person looks over and makes eye contact with you, reach out to shake their hand and say "Hi, I'm Bob. Tim's my supervisor". Then they will either carry on with their two-person conversation or with a combination of words and body language they will just automatically include you in the conversation now. But do wait for the person to look at you before you go sticking your arm out to shake their hand. If that moment never comes, then just stay quietly in the background. There might be a reason why your supervisor chose not to introduce you.

Yes, that is the best thing to do. There may not be a perfect time to slip in an introduction, if business is critical. First things first.

When you meet eyes with that other person, just say hello and tell them your name while holding out your hand. The other person will naturally shake your hand and share their name in return. If they don't, just ask, "and you are"?

In a business situation you need to be careful. There maybe a reason why your supervisor didn't introduce you. Or he could just be plain rude.
