Personality traits, I would say someone who is a well-adjusted, self-actualized grown up, with no major insecurities and who is able to honestly and clearly communicate their needs, desires, and emotions. I'm not the motherly type, and I have no patience for and no desire to deal with childish and passive-aggressive behavior. If you can't communicate like a grown-up, I'm out of there. This doesn't mean that I'm looking for someone with no "issues" or "no baggage" like we often hear: everyone comes with those, but it's how we deal with those issues and baggage that matters. And I do like a little bit of quirkiness.

As for values, they often mesh with personality traits: I'm looking for someone who accept and respect difference (not merely "tolerates" it), someone who is compasionate, who can emphatize with others, a decent human being who treats others like human beings, and who isn't so self-centered that s/he can't see that other people comes from different spaces of (non-)privilege and opportunities. In case you hadn't figured it out by now, I'm myself very much on the "left" when it comes to political and social values, so I'm looking for someone with similar values of social justice and equality.

I can't say that I have had that much trouble finding someone with those qualities. Finding someone with those qualities and with whom I feel that little je ne sais quoi is more difficult.

But yes, the few long-term partners I've had were all a close fit to those qualities.
