what to do with crystals?

Hello everyone,

I am currently studying reflexology & have learned how to work the whole foot & all the reflexes, but I am having a problem trying to get my tutor to tell me what I should do when I find areas of 'crystal' under the skin - should I massage these areas again or as he says just make a note of where they occur?

these tutors... never want to commit to answers, do they!

when you find crystal deposits, the general rule of thumb (geddit???) is to thumb walk it or rotate, if its a small area. depending on client discomfort, sometimes you might just use firm pressure until the discomfort subsides. the idea is to try and break down the crystals, but dont overwork the area thereby releasing too much toxicity into the system.

certainly make a note of where it is, ask the client if they are aware of any problems with their.......... whatever it is. 9 times out of 10, yes they are aware and sometimes forget to mention it in consultation. if they are not aware, thats fine. could well be foot structure... more treatments will determine this.

Yes, you note it and you work on it. Go with it basically. Start gently if it is tender and then gradually work deeper until the discomfort subsides as Rosie says. The idea is to break it down.

seriously, i am considering moving into the teaching ITEC reflexology... from what i can gather from students on these forums, all the teachers are questionable.

my teacher was great, but she did make us think for ourselves... but not on technique... she showed us that!

pardon my ignorance but what is a "crytsal" deposit and how do you look for it?

crystal deposits are deposits and build up of uric acid. the idea is, that a presence of these deposits on a reflex point indicates an imbalance in the body area. so by dispersing the crystals, we help to eliminate the toxins and let the energy flow freely again.

Hiya Grasshopper,

I was taught to work on th earea as described by Rosie and Candie; once you have completed working on that foot, go back to the area and work on it again.

Once all the routine is over we did the colon last, working on the tract over both feet together (kind of!), you can work on the area again if still crunchy.

We were told to not work on the area for more than three times.

You can also thumb walk in different directions to help break those gritty areas down.
