What would be the proper ratio of oil to water for Aromatherapy using a Vaporizer?

I'm sure there is variations on this depending on strength of the essential oils and all of that. But just for a starting point, do you know what would be the proper ratio of oil to water for Aromatherapy using a Vaporizer?
I assume the vaporizer part is inconsequential also but just thought I would throw that in there.
My vap has an attachment to hold a few tablespoons, give or take, of liquid for this exact purpose but I can't find anything that tells me how much oil to 'mix' into the water...
Only that I should use distilled water.

You are right, that the main point is the oil and it's relative strength and volatility. Many so-called essential oils are mainly solvent or water, with very little actual scent or fragrant oil. They would require more of course. But a good quality organic oil won't have a petroleum based carrier solvent, and then just a few drops is enough. If you leave the vaporizer at a very low temperature, then it won't unnecessarily evaporate.
The distilled water is to avoid hard water deposits on the "aroma bowl" and some oils will mix with distilled water better than harder tap water.
The kind of unit you have is very efficient, if left on low, will work for hours and if you use high quality oils it will produce pleasant fragrance instead of that chemical odor that most room deodorizers produce.

Start with five drops, for many oils, in a small room, that will be plenty. Ten if you are talking about a large room, but that might be a little overwhelming. Start small.
