The Best Western as the major and the Pink Flamingo as the indie whthin San Ysidro are both within a five minute walk. I'm going back in April and will stay in the Pink F. It dosent have AC, however gets the job done.

Try the Travelodge in San Ysidro. Easy walk, lots of restaurants around, safe, right by the Trolley line for easy access to San Diego, too. Phone is 619-428-2800. There are better, but there are a hell of a lot worse, too.
Prices are okay, but higher on weekend.
