Whats the best place in NorthEast Philly for a single female newbie to live in?

I'm moving from NYC to Philly in a month since I found a job thats located in Port Richmond which I believe is in the Near Northeast section of Philly. I have never been to this area and have virtually no idea of what the best areas to live in are. Hence I don't even know what areas to look for apartments on Craigslist. I realize that I will have to get a car but don't want my daily ride to be too long. I just want to move in to a decent somewhat fun SAFE place for a single girl to live in. Any suggestions ??
Finances will not be an issue. I could well move in to a more expensive area if it makes it safer and relatively closer to my workplace which is located at Cottman and Bustleton ave 19134

JDM gave you some good advice but what kind of money will you be making because those 2 places are getting more and more expensive. If you don't make enough for that then look in the Northeast in like Mayfair but maybe West Mayfair because even though nothing in the northeast is what I would consider cheap East Mayfair is not as good a neighborhood. I'd stay out of Kensington which is close to Port Richmond and North Philly (both bad neighborhoods) Next going north would be Bridesburg which could still be alright in spots. Stay out of 19124 zip code and be careful of 19135, some parts of 19149 are west mayfair but you want to stay east of Roosevelt Blvd or you will be in Oxford Cirlcle and that is not good either. Alot to think about.

Take a look into Fishtown and Northern Liberties. I know of single girls living in PR, but I don't know that I'd send anyone there. I know that Fishtown and NL are more populated and see more people out at night, so I'd think it'd be a little safer. Plus, NL is pretty much in the midst of a nightlife boom, where they're opening up new restaurants and bars alongside of a lot of new stores. Fishtown has cashed in by being the cheaper neighbor to the north, but with homes that are steadily rising in quality. Fishtown is much more family-oriented than NL in my opinion, but I also think it's a lot more social. It's a little more blue-collar than NL, but I think that's what helps Fishtown stay grounded.

Both neighborhoods will put you within a very short drive to Port Richmond, but will also leave you close enough to the city to be able to enjoy it without having to go too far.
