Hey guys, I'm trying to learn as much as I can before heading to LOS for the first time next year and I keep seeing pictures in bars with a big bell hanging from the ceiling...

What's the bell all about? We have more bars than cockroaches here in New Orleans, but not one that I've been to has a big bell.

Does someone ring it whenever they feel like it? Is it sacred and never to be rung? Is it for last call? If I sit under it, and a ladyboy rings it, do I have to go home with him/her?
 
if you ring the bell , you buy everyone in the bar a drink , there is normaly a sign next to it saying how mutch it cost , normaly its 1000-2000 bath
