When a Man Cooks For a Woman

It's the only type of cooking a "real" man will do. When a man volunteers to do the cooking, the following chain of events is put into motion:
[ol][*]The woman goes to the store and buys the food.

[*]The woman fixes the salad, vegetables, and dessert.

[*]The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils, and takes it to the man, who is lounging beside the grill, drinking a soda.

[*]The man places the meat on the grill.

[*]The woman goes inside to set the table and check the vegetables.

[*]The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is done.

[*]The man takes the meat off the grill and puts it on a plate for the woman.

[*]The woman prepares the plates and brings them to the table.

[*]After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

[*]The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off from cooking?" And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women. [/ol]

And what exactly is a "real" man I was then forced to ask myself! Do I qualify? Hetero, shooter, fisherman, solo sailor, white water kayaker...well if anything will bring this into question, it's undoubtably my ability to knock up a gourmet repast! Now...I was taught by my grandfather and two of his sons, Uncle Jack and uncle Nigel, all excellent chefs! I invariably leave the kitchen as I found it before I sit down, unless "The Golden Moment" makes this impossible, in which caseI do it after the meal is served and enjoyed. But maybe that's the difference...I was taught by men!

i got a kick out of this - my hubby and i 'cook' together - more or lessly i prepare all the foods, sometimes he cuts up some veggies or stirs the pot - but he always cooks the meat - but i have to prep it....lol

My husband used to cook for me (hah !)on a satdy night, mmmmm? lets see, What you want to eat? What can you cook? errrrrrrrm pizza, beans on toast, that cheesy thing you showed me, Ok then we'll have the cheesy thing, Come and grate the cheese then I'm not good at that, so off I go to grate the cheese. errrrrr Do I put the milk in the pan first or the butter? Put a couple of knobs of butter in the pan and a penny size of oil, How much is a penny of oil? about 1p u dim ? ,Oh give it here I'll do it ! Then I go and sit down, Lynnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne does the milk go in before eggs? YES i growl smilingly, Lyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyne ????, oh for crying out loud I thought you said you could cook it? I can ! but, But what? you either can or can't, I can, I just need you to watch me cook it, sod off J get sat down I'll do it. !! It's quicker and easier for us to DIY it girls isn't it? He's a tryer I'll give him that,but only of my patience. lyn ps he's very good at ordering pizza though.

lyn - you made me laugh - really - sometimes my hubby is like that!! i can almost relate!!!

mine knows how to make his own yoghurt (which is quite yummy), and spaghetti homemade style, and a nice cucumber/garlic/yoghurt salad - thing is i peal the cucumber - as he is cutting it up he asks me to get some garlic and cut it up and press it - he is very handy though with mixing - i dont have an electric mixer (i dont think i will ever buy one) hehehe - because he loves to help me when i am mixing a cake (he loves the leftovers - so i make him work for it a bit)...oh - he knows how to make roasted stuffed peppers - as long as i gut them and cook the rice with the meat.......lol

hehehehe - that was a typical conversation with us - he makes saturday morning polinta - his fav - and constantly asking 'how much do i put in to boil', 'how much water do you think i need', can i cook it with butter or do i need oil'.......but bless his heart he tryes - so i try to give him all the 'manly things' to do in the kitchen lol

hi all.....here is my pennies worth on the subject of men and cooking..

my partner,must be unique...i can just ask " whats for dinner?", and he'll reply with a " i'll do it,what do you want?"...

so when it comes to the time...i just give him a look,as he puts it..and off he goes...chops,cooks,does it all by himself...he makes everything from scratch....no sauces in jars etc...all from fresh ingredients,spices,etc...even makes the garlic bread from scratch.....we must have every herb,spice flour,oil...there is in our home!..no wonder i have so many cupboards in my kitchen!

His downfall...as yes he has one...he is such a sloppy cook..uses every utensil going,pots and pans etc...WHY oh WHY does he not tidy up as he goes along?,,he is getting better though,just not upto my standard.....but then again,my daughter does say i have a touch of O.C.D, when it comes to the kitchen being spotless.well the whole house actually.lol

any tips on training the manfriend,to clean as he goes be much appreciated.

Blimey, what kind of partners are you girls attracting to yourselves? If what you say is true, then either youmight chooseto ask yourselves why you attract and collude with this kind of behaviour, or else have a look at your perceptions of it. (There is a sport called man-bashing, and I think it's shame people find it so funny.)
There are four men and three women in my immediate family: one of the men and one of the women are hopeless in the kitchen, the rest vary from good to excellent cooks - but none are selfish or whiny.
Treat someone as helpless, and that's what they'll become - and it's not their fault!

PS Dee, I have days like your partner when I just can't keep atidy kitchen. Just stay out of the way until he has cleaned it all up again, then it's his problem and you needn't even see it. Golden rule: the person cooking does the washing up. It's a great motivator!!

[X(]dont get me wrong bigvoice - i love my husbands hand in the kitchen - even if its not to help me cook lol...he could cook if he needed to for himself - it wouldnt be healthy - and it would consist of cheese and bread, or bread and cheese, or some sort of cheese & bread mixture...

he is a sweety though - wouldnt give him up for the world!

You have made me laugh and appreciate,I have asked my husband to cook on Saturday evening, I work on saturday whilst he is enjoying the kids.
I stated that cooking on saturdays meant;

Deciding what to cook
Checking which ingredients he may need to purchase after checking our cupboards and fridge.
Going to the shops and purchasing neccesary ingredients
Unpacking and storing until required.
Measuring out and preparing.
Delegating kids to laying the table
Cooking
Serving
Enjoying sacred family time
Washing up, cleaning down work tops and cooker sweeping floor.

Wow! Is there really so much to it?
Yes 6 days of the week for me!

However, must state, that appreciation is being shown.

I have often wondered why is it that generally when a man cooks, the food is presented and tastes better than if a woman has cooked it.
Just think of those male tv chefs.

Personally, the only conclusion I can come to is that
He Takes ALL Day

I have a wonderful male friend who not only cooks his own 3 course meals for guests but actually throws dinner parties with the whole lot- complete with singing and piano playing lol!
